Season Start Dates for each grade

Premier and Senior (Pearce and Hazlett)

  • The club season will commence with Twenty/20 rounds over the first two weekends of the season (Sat 10 and 17 October).  Two games will be played per day and four teams will play at the same venue or venues within close proximity of each other to assist with travelling for afternoon matches.  The following grounds have been requested for the 10 October, councils have been informed and are hopeful of starting on time but this will depend on the weather patterns over the September month.

Senior 2, 3 and Senior Women’s

  • These grades are proposed to start on Saturday 17 October with Twenty/20 games.  This will run along the same lines as the Premier and Senior grades with two pitches being utilised on the same ground or within close proximity.  If grounds of this nature are unavailable we will look to accommodate this by swapping the scheduled Twenty/20 rounds with a One Day round to start these grades on time.

Hutt Valley and Wellington Lower Grades

  • All Lower Grade cricket will commence on Saturday 31 October.

Sunday Play

Double Header Weekends

  • The introduction of Twenty/20 to the calendar has stretched the season with regards to the number weekends available to complete full rounds of competition games.   This year we plan to play double header weekends (Saturday/Sunday) for the Inter City grades.  Outlined below are the weekends scheduled for double headers:

    • Sunday 25 October – Premier, Senior, Senior 2, Senior 3.  One round of Twenty/20 games starting at 1pm.
    • No play is scheduled on Labour weekend Monday.
    • Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 February.  A two day round will be completed over this weekend applying to Premier, Senior, Senior 2 and Senior 3 grades.
    • Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 March.  Games apply to Senior 2, Senior 3, Hutt Valley 2A, Wellington 2A, 2B, 2C and 2D.  With all Lower Grades commencing on Saturday 31 October, a double header has been scheduled for the two day grades post Christmas to allow for a full round of two day and one day games to be completed.  This double header replaced a previously schedule reserve day.

Reserve Days

  • Reserve Days have been introduced this season to accommodate games lost to bad weather or grounds being unavailable early season.  The protocols around Reserve Days are such that if a Twenty/20 and One Day match have been previously abandoned, the One Day match will be the first replayed.  Lower Grade Reserve Days will be scheduled for One Day games that are lost throughout the season.  No two day games will be made up on reserve days unless full two day round is washed out.  In this case, the two day round will be made up as a one day game.  The following Reserve Days have been scheduled:

    • Sunday 6 December – Applies to Premier, Senior, Senior 2 and Senior 3 grades
    • Sunday 21 February – Applies to all Hutt Valley and Wellington lower grades and Senior Women’s
    • Sunday 14 March – Applies to all Hutt Valley and Wellington One Day and Twenty/20 lower grades and Senior Women’s
    • Should any of these dates be used, Cricket Wellington will advise beforehand as to which round is being replayed.

Events and ‘Potential ODI’

  • Sunday 31 January – All lower grade cricket in the Hutt Valley and Wellington will be on the Sunday instead of Saturday due to the Wellington races.  This was a request from the players at the Lower Grade forum held earlier in the year.

  • Sunday 7 February – All Wellington lower grade cricket will be played on this day due to the Wellington Sevens taking place on the Saturday.  All Hutt Valley Lower Grade games will be played on the Saturday 6 February as has been the case in the past.

  • At this stage all cricket has been scheduled for Sunday 7 March due to a pending ODI taking place in Wellington on the Saturday.  Cricket may revert back to the Saturday if the ODI is changed.  This will be confirmed once New Zealand Cricket release the International and domestic playing schedule.

Club Finals

The Club One Day finals have been scheduled on Anniversary Day (Monday 25 January).  Having viewed a draft domestic schedule, this is the only date that Firebirds players would be available throughout December and January for club cricket.  Firebirds availability will be subject to them being released by the coaching staff.

  • The Club Three Day finals have been scheduled on Easter Weekend (April 2, 3 and 4).  This allows Premier and Senior grades to play into the last weekend of March, as well as Lower Grade cricket.

  • The lower grade Inter City playoff match is scheduled to take place on Sunday 28 March.
