Luke Woodcock capped off a great season for Wellington when he was named Wellington Cricketer of the Year at the Norwood Cricket awards on 14 April.
Wellington Firebirds’ left-hander Luke Woodcock became Wellington Cricket’s all-time single season highest first-class run-scorer during his innings of 76 against the Canterbury Wizards in Rangiora over the weekend.
Woodcock moved past the single season run-mark of 888 set by Robert Vance in the 1988/89 season when he reached 54 on the opening day’s play on Saturday.

Wakefield to Captain Blaze
Megan Wakefield has been appointed captain of the Wellington Blaze for the 2009/2010 season. Wakefield joined the Johnsonville Senior Women's team this season after playing for Taita for a number of seasons. Wakefield has been a member of the Blaze since the 01/02 season. She was named Wellington Batswoman of the Year at the Wellington Cricket Awards last season and was also in the NZ A team. Wakefield is a right hand top order batswoman and right arm medium pace bowler. Sian Ruck, who is currently a member of the White Ferns squad, joins Wakefield in the Blaze. Ruck is a right arm fast bowler. Ruck has been a member of the Johnsonville Women's team for a number of years. The Blaze had a successful season last year and it is hoped this will continue this season.
