Registrations for the 2024/25 season are now closed.
If you missed out but still want to play cricket you can email us at info@jcc.org.nz and we may have some spaces available.
The Johnsonville Cricket Club has a proud heritage of supporting and encouraging the development of female cricketers.
BACKGROUND
We offer two types of Girls Only cricket - Softball cricket for girls in Years 5-8 and Hardball cricket for girls in Years 6-11.
Mixed Junior cricket teams start to use a hardball at Year 5 level. Some girls prefer to continue playing softball cricket for a few more years, so Girls Softball cricket is perfect for them because they can play softball cricket in girls only teams right up until Year 8.
However, if they are ready to change over to hardball cricket they can start playing girls only hardball cricket from Year 6 and continue right up until Year 11. We also have Womens teams in Division 2 and Division 1 so there are plenty of pathways available for our talented girls and women.
Girls Softball Format
Girls Softball games are played on a Sunday morning at 10am. Everyone gets a chance to bat and bowl and games are limited to 16 overs per side.
Girls Hardball Format
Girls Hardball games are played on a Saturday afternoon generally commencing around 2pm.
If girls, up to year 8 also wanted to play for a mixed team on a Saturday morning, this would not preclude them from being a part of these teams if they chose to do so. The only cricket available for girls when they commence secondary school is a Thursday afternoon format so this would enable girls who are Year 8 this year to continue to be involved full time in cricket after Xmas. The grade is played in three formats over the season where everyone gets many chances to participate. The girls play pairs cricket where they bat for 4 overs together, T20 and some 30 over games.
